Linda Thompson

inda Owens Thompson is an experienced, effective professional with 25 years of proven leadership and accomplishment in K-12 education. She served in leadership roles, as curriculum director, and as manager for initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness. She is a recognized leader for demonstrating high quality professional development, positive coaching, and for her ability to collaborate successfully across organizational boundaries. She possesses proven experience for guidance of instructional staff to foster use of their strengths as they evaluate and apply new strategies to improve teaching methods. Linda is a goal-oriented professional with a strong focus on the mission of schools and for education organizations. She is committed to utilize approaches to achieve organizational excellence for implementation and to ensure accomplishment of high expectations for staff and students.
Linda Thompson is an advisor, consultant and an invaluable resource for GL2. Her responsibilities include training and mentoring of instructors, assistance for organizations committed to address deficiencies for instructional approaches, and guidance to improve learning environments. She supports teams to identify essential data to collect and for assessments to determine how best to modify learning environments to optimize academic performance. She seeks solutions to meet the needs of parents and the community. 
Ms. Thompson has proven accomplishments at multiple high schools in Chicago, IL. She implemented protocols to enable teachers to monitor student progress, select data driven instructional practices, and led instructional teams to improve student vocabulary through reading and writing for curriculum content. Conducted professional development including methods to engage students in their own learning and career goals.  Supported teachers obtain an understanding of the REACH Framework, CCS, CCRS, instruction strategies, assessment practices, and data analysis to improve methods to ensure increases in student learning. Linda directed Instructional Leadership Teams to develop and implement strategic plans, monitor instruction, increase capacity, improve school culture and to promote parent and community participation. She involved stakeholders to develop initiatives that support the school’s mission and programs and coordinated several large federal grants including GEAR UP and Upward Bound.

Accomplishments include development of an After School Scholars Initiative, Girl’s Mentoring Program, ACT Initiative to increase academic performance, and awards recognition programs to improve school morale. She implemented strategies to address targeted behavior of freshmen students and reduced student failure by consistently analyzing trends to determine effective intervention strategies. Results included a 23% increase in graduation, .5 point increase in ACT composite, 8% increase on PSAE reading, 4% increase in attendance, 43% decrease in misconduct instances, with freshman students’ ranked number one in the region on target to graduate in four years. Of special note, 64% of Hope High School’s senior class for 2006 attended a four year university or college. At the middle school level, her results are exemplary and include a 70% improvement in reading and math scores over a three year period.

Linda Thompson was selected as a top candidate for the 2004 LAUNCH Fellow Program for administration training at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She earned her Master of Arts at Concordia University in Administrative Leadership and for Urban Education, and holds an Illinois Administrator License Type 75. She served on the Illinois College and Career Readiness Committee 2010-2012 and has participated in numerous professional development programs.
