Brittany Jacobs

Brittany R. Jacobs is an established author, illustrator, librarian, and a highly experienced educational programmer. She is steeped in and passionate about K-12 education and emphasizes methods that can be optimized for informal and other tailored learning environments. Brittany has proven that her unique ideas are on-point to develop and utilize new innovative curriculum content to address academic performance needs of children. She is experienced in developing specialized approaches to ensure effective, engaging, transformative learning programs to achieve real measurable staying power.

Brittany is an advisor, consultant and an invaluable resource for GL2. Her responsibilities include training and mentoring of instructors to excel in informal learning settings and for development of specialized programs to address education needs related to academic performance. Brittany’s undergraduate degree in children’s programming enables her to tailor education offerings based on interactions with school and park district education personnel. Her specialty is taking information and knowledge and infusing it into fun and exciting programs for children and youth.

From community centers in South Africa to museums in Houston to the inner city libraries of Philadelphia, Brittany has extensive experience teaching a variety of content to children of all ages. She has created and conducted HIV/AIDS education programs for children in South Africa and developed interactive programs about renewable energy including principles, technology and their use. She applied her creative ability to develop and conduct programs for school groups in Houston to foster the excitement of children to increase their retention of knowledge and skills applied. Brittany has proven to be a uniquely qualified educator in the world of real-life experiences outside of the classroom.

While working for the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Literacy Enrichment After-School Program (LEAP) Brittany created and implemented a STEM and literacy Spy Club for elementary children that was wildly successful and drew national attention. Using that program as her exemplar, Brittany is now writing a book for ABC-CLIO on how to create educational, engaging and exciting curriculum in the library setting. In addition to this book, Brittany also engages young minds by writing and illustrating children’s picture books.

As a strong advocate for life-long learning, Brittany is currently working towards her Master of Science (MSLIS) at the nationally ranked #1 School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Catering her graduate career towards curriculum development in informal settings, it is with this degree that she hopes to further her career in educational programming. Words that Brittany lives by: “To be able to create wonder and magic while inspiring learning is the best way to inspire the future...” (Rob MacGreggor)
