Alex Villalobos

Sergio A (Alex) Villalobos serves Global Learning and Leadership as a director and senior advisor.  Dr. Villalobos provides insight and support for GL2’s STEM Program development and implementation with an emphasis on the energy sector, environmental sciences, and for student discussions related to sustainable futures for the U.S.  Alex is an Expert Environmental Toxicologist with the Global Product Stewardship in the new Innovation & Engineering group at the BP Corporation since August 2011.  He has 20 years of experience in the private sector and holds a PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology from University of California Davis, a BSc in Marine Biology from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University Colombia, and post?doctoral studies in Aquatic Toxicology from Michigan State University.  His current primary responsibilities, both directly and indirectly, include leading and/or supporting programs and projects related to environmental toxicology and risk assessment for BP products globally, from Exploration and Production to Refining, Shipping, and Remediation Management.

Prior to his managerial and technical work at BP, Dr. Villalobos managed a group of professionals (Nalco, Product Registration & Compliance) and led the effort to graduate the company in a voluntary US EPA program known as Sustainable Futures, which served to expedite entry into US markets for industrial chemicals under the US Toxic Substances Control Act (US TSCA).  He has a strong scientific, technical and regulatory background in the main areas of toxicology as they relate to specialty and industrial chemicals, as well as petrochemical and agricultural.  Alex is fully bilingual in Spanish and English, (reading, writing and speaking), and is also conversant in Portuguese, French and Italian.  He is member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry, the Society of Toxicology, and the Union of Concerned Scientists (USC).
